Five finds of the fortnight: Edition 34

What NVC/social change topics would you like to explore?

Dear reader,

A week ago, we closed the first Quarter of the Living Bridges journey for 2022. We’ve offered 13 workshops on NVC and social change, practice group sessions and resources and support for anyone interested in a sustained engagement.

Some of you have been a part of these workshops and groups in the last few months—thank you for taking this journey with us!We’re now taking a break to process and integrate the feedback we’ve received from participants in the last quarter.

We’ve created a short survey to help us understand how we can orient our offerings to be more relevant. If you’ve attended any sessions with us, or considered doing so, would you take a few minutes to fill in your feedback?

The Living Bridges team looks forward to hearing from you!Warm regards,Ranjitha

1. Quote of the fortnight

Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It's a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity.

2. Image of the fortnight

The image of the fortnight is inspired by the Making Life Work Course by Miki Kashtan and The Fearless Heart. This comes from a section on empathy that addresses the question, what if I want to empathize with someone but my heart isn’t open to them? The course suggests moving gently between these three directions to open our hearts to ourselves and others.See the social media post I made recently here for a longer version of this. Check out the course here.

3. Social media post of the fortnight

This artwork by @Mardou_draws captures the fear of showing up and being seen, and how it can keep us from doing what we long to. You can read it here:

4. Video of the fortnight

A short clip from the movie inside out points out how not to listen—and more importantly, how acknowledging someone’s pain makes things better, not worse.

5. Upcoming events

The NVC Academy is offering new courses this July. All of these courses will be held online.
